Process of making a custom suit
Initial consultation & style discussion
Consultation & Style Decisions
- The journey begins with a one-on-one consultation to understand the client’s needs, preferences, and the occasion (e.g., business, wedding, cultural event).
- Style choices like lapel type, jacket cut, number of buttons, and vent style are discussed.
- You meet with a tailor to discuss what you want: fabric, color, fit, lapel style, pockets, lining, and overall vibe.
- This step sets the creative direction — classic, modern, bold, or understated.
Fabric Selection
- Clients choose from a curated selection of premium fabrics — wool, linen, cotton, silk blends, or specialty textiles.
- Color, texture, weight, and seasonality are considered.
- You choose from swatches of wool, linen, cotton, blends, or luxury materials.
- Our creative rep will help match fabric weight and texture to your lifestyle and climate.
Measurements & Body Analysis
- Dozens of measurements are taken: chest, shoulders, arms, waist, hips, posture, stance, shoulder slope, etc.
- Our creative rep study how you stand and move to shape the suit around your body, not a template.
Pattern Creation
- A unique paper or digital pattern is drafted based on your measurements.
- This pattern becomes the blueprint for cutting the fabric.
Cutting the Fabric
- The tailor cuts the chosen fabric by hand or with precision tools.
- Interlinings, canvases, and linings are also cut at this stage.
Basting & First Fitting
- The suit is loosely stitched together (called a “basted fitting”).
- You try it on so the tailor can check fit, drape, balance, and proportions.
- Major adjustments happen here.
Second (and Sometimes Third) Fitting
- The suit is refined with more accurate stitching.
- Tailors fine‑tune sleeve pitch, shoulder shape, waist suppression, and trouser break.
- High-end bespoke suits may require multiple fittings.
Final Construction
- The suit is fully sewn with permanent stitching.
- Canvassing is shaped, pockets are finished, buttonholes are cut, and lining is attached.
- Handwork is added where needed (lapels, hems, pick stitching).
Final Fitting & Delivery
- You try on the completed suit.
- Minor tweaks are made if necessary.
- The suit is pressed, cleaned, and delivered.
